Undécimo disco de la banda liderada por Bobby Gillespie, en el que los escoceses se plagian a sí mismos con una bonita colección de canciones agradables, con más sintetizadores que guitarras, y que va más destinada a bailar que a presumir de guitarras y atmósferas densas. Y es que cuando te enfrentas a un nuevo disco de PRIMAL SCREAM no sabes lo que te vas a encontrar, puesto que ya han pasado por un buen montón de etapas, que si el jangle-pop de sus inicios, el amor por el acid y las raves de ‘Screamadelica’, el dub de ‘Vanishing Point’, el techno de ‘XTRMNTR‘ o ‘Evil heat’, el rock de ‘Give out but don’t give up’, o la intensidad épica de ‘More light’, su antecesor… Pues bien, en este nuevo disco hay un poco de todo… El tema que lo abre, “Trippin’ on your love” es un hit instantáneo y arrollador que recuerda al ‘Screamadelica’, al igual que otros más triposos como “I can change”; el pop de “Feeling like a demon again” parece sacado de ‘Beautiful future’; “When the blackout meets the fallout” es un proyectil electrónico envenenado que no llega ni a los dos minutos y que recuerda a temas como “Swastika eyes” o al sonido de álbumes como ‘Evil heat’… Cuando no se autoplagian, sus referentes van desde NEW ORDER en el caso de “100% or nothing” o “Autumn paradise”, los HAPPY MONDAYS en “Golden rope”, hasta los FUTURE BIBLE HEROES en “Where the light gets in”, una de las mejores canciones del disco. El álbum cuenta con notables colaboraciones femeninas, como las de Sky Ferreira, en “Where the light gets in”; Danielle, Este y Alana (de HAIM), en “Trippin’ on your love” o “100% or nothing”; y la de Rachel Zeffira (CAT’S EYES), que participa en hasta tres temas del disco, destacando su aportación a las voces, violín y viola en el tema más pausado y acústico, “Private wars”. En definitiva, un bonito álbum que entra fácil y en dónde predomina el synth-pop sobre el rock clásico de guitarras.
