EXPLODING FLOWERS son un interesante descubrimiento, un cuarteto de jangle pop de Los Angeles, y éste es su segundo álbum, tras un EP en el sello alemán Edition 59 en 2010, y un LP en el sello Smash It Up! en 2011, así que se han tomado su tiempo para facturar este espléndido segundo trabajo largo, un fantástico disco de pop mayúsculo en el que encontramos elementos del pop de los ‘70 y de los ‘80, de THE BYRDS, BIG STAR, THE CHILLS, THE BATS, guitarras de 12 cuerdas, Summershine Records, el Paisley Underground californiano,… incluso me recuerdan a grupos actuales como THE YETIS o THE DEATH OF POP… en definitiva, melodías veraniegas de corte nostálgico, indiepop de guitarras que casa muy bien con órganos vintage, dándole un aspecto muy elegante donde su garage pop suena fresco, actual y tremendamente atractivo

. En el tema que cierra el disco, “Are we so disposable?”, colabora a la voz Suki Ewers (MAZZY STAR, OPAL, ANEMONE)

PETER HALL – “There’s something wrong with everyone” CD-EP (The Beautiful Music, 2020)

Peter Hall es el tipo que se esconde tras PLAY PEOPLE, y que pude ver tocando en el tren en Indietracks 2010. En este ep de debut bajo su nombre nos encontramos cuatro preciosas canciones (más una extra) de pop sofisticado de melodías redondas y un sonido que puede recordar a grupos como AZTEC CAMERA, CAPTAIN SOUL, Paul Weller, THE LILAC TIME, Elliott Smith, etc… pop clásico y atemporal de guitarras que se mueve en medios tiempos y que sorprende por su nitidez y elegancia. El corte extra, “Funny looking angels”, es una versión de James Roberts, que escribió para su grupo DELTA (cenizas de SEA URCHINS) en 2002.

Lisa Mychols fue una estrella del powerpop noventero californiano, sobre todo, con su grupo THE MASTICATORS, mientras que SUPER 8 es el seudónimo tras el que se esconde un músico inglés, Paul Ryan, actualmente afincado en Escocia

Juntos han compuesto un disco de pop que recuerda al sunshine pop y al northern soul de las décadas de los 60s y los 70s, pop de melodías soleadas que nos traen a la mente playas, tablas de surf, olas rompiendo en la orilla,… Son catorce canciones de melodías atemporales que no llegan ni a los 40 minutos para los amantes de los sonidos de otras épocas.
